you can use SMF, there's a SMF > Joomla bridge in Home of SMF: Free PHP and MySQL forum software

I would like suggestions for Chat/Forum you already tested, because there will be no time for testing after adding in live site.

(For the moment I am using Ninjaboard. Its not very advanced for users in fact, but it has a cool admin panel and easy-to-modify style)

SMF is tried and tested.. it will work with joomla.. just follow the instruction in simplemachine's community forum
