    Whats Happened To Php

I was speaking to the head of department in wireless comunications the other day and they say that PHP is an unpopular language and that all programs and apps used to edit php scripts have been taken off the market here in South Africa. Why is this?

    What language is popular then?

cos your country sucks?? i don't know, i get all my stuff online, and so do most other ppl..??

are you talking about scripts or editors??

I mean php desiginer 2008, rapidphp and many other editors are still available as they always have been..

All the popular scripts like invision power board, joomla, phpbb, and most i can think of are all still php.. its definatly the most popular language.. just see the massive amount of php stuff on sites like hotscripts compared with the other sections..

MOST??? Name me one popular web script that uses asp or perl???

IPB, vB, Joomla, phpBB, myBB, SMF, phpNUKE, i could go on all day...
Even ikonboard has a php version now.. used to be perl..

PHP is by far the most popular web programming language, you can easily see that by looking at any script site... This topic is stupid.. nothing have changed with php.. an i never evr seen any php related stuff in the shops anyway, other than maybe some books, you can order any editor or script online..... wtf..

PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a highly popular open source server-side scripting language used to build dynamic Web sites and e-businesses. In use by more than 500,000 developers worldwide, PHP is taking the Internet by storm. In fact, a recent survey indicates that it has surpassed Microsoft’s Active Server Pages (ASP) for having the greatest number of server installations on the Internet.
Read the full article for more details on:

              * PHP’s Explosive Growth: Prominent companies using PHP today include Siemens, Ericsson, Worldcom, CMG, Vodaphone, CBS, Unilever, Philips, BMC, NTT, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Lycos Europe, Bang & Olufsen and Deutsche Bank
              * Individual installations: According to the 2002 Netcraft survey, more than 9 million domains and 3 million active Web sites use PHP.
              * Web servers supporting PHP: 46 percent of Apache servers employ PHP (the second most popular scripting language in Apache is Perl, with 18 percent of the market).[/b]
There you go, in black and white.. nearly half the web servers/scripts use php.. perl is SECOND...

thats what i wanted to know as everywhere i go in sa, nobody can sell me a php editor. this sucks as ni cannot edit my scripts properly. i know i can use normal note pad or word but i prefer vb php as it works best for me. but i have miss placed my disc and im now using a trial version which is now expired.

I cant believe it, i have contacted the majoy it companies in South africa and asked them about PHP. Half of them didnt even know what i was talking about and most of them have never even seen software that supports php......

And almost every site i go to now days, they all use some form of php.
So why do top it professionals say that php is very uncommon, or are the people here in SA just stupid.
