Photoshop 7

I just installed adobe photoshop 7 on my laptop, i want to remove the background of an image, so i use the lasso tool, after i finished removing the background, the background to be out totally, instead it changed to a white background, dunno what to do, someone help, i have attached the way it showed.......... who can help?

On the Right side you will see a padlock unlock it then delete it

for anyone else who wants to know these are the steps

1. use magic lusso too outline the image you want to keep
2. Press ALT + J
3. then go to file then place and choose the image u want and itl fall behind the part u magic lusso'd
