Not able to show logo of my site

I tried a lot but i get syntax error while adding code in index.php to display logo.the logo is in the same folder.and
Here is index file.please add the code anyone to display my "image.png" logo.thank you

Add this in a new line before echo $xx;
echo '<img src="image.png" alt="logo"/><br/>';
