How to Enable Safe_mood in my Server?

Friends...I Want to enable safe mood on my host. I have tried to enable it by
safe_mood = On this code in my .htaccess file....But its call 500 Internal Server error. I also tried this code in my php.ini file but its doesnot work. can anybody help me...how to enable it?

change that to safe_mode = On

why turning it on??why secure your uploaders? eheh they can still root your site when they uploaded a shell then boom..stil can be hacked

just disable shell files from being uploaded with a script :/

it must change not in htaccess. Change this in php.ini

Ok well hack [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] by uploading a shell file then lol :D

Things that may disable it is by disabling shell_exec(); or by overriding the functions.
I have not tried any of them yet btw...
